Precious Plastic Dublin at the Zero Waste Festival at the Science Gallery

Precious Plastic Dublin will be at the upcoming Zero Waste Festival at the Science Gallery Dublin from January 25 to 26, 2020. We’ll bring you the latest updates from our group and you will be able to drop off your HDPE bottle caps at our info stand. Emmanuel Raynaud will run again his well-attended upcycling workshop (Saturday, between 12.30 and 2 pm) and Celia Somlai will give a talk on facts and figures on global plastic abundance and what we can do about it, Precious Plastic?! (Sunday, 2 pm).

Where and When?

The next Zero Waste Festival will be hosted at The Science Gallery in Pearse Street, Dublin 2, from 12 noon to 5 pm on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th of January. The Zero Waste Festival will be part their ongoing PLASTIC exhibition, so make sure to check that out as well.

What can I bring for recycling?

Precious Plastic Dublin will bring you the latest updates about our activities and we’ll have drop off point for HDPE bottle caps.

HDPE bottle caps

We accept clean and dry HDPE bottle caps from drinking bottles, milk jugs, and drinking cartons which we will recycle locally in Dublin. The first batch of bottle caps we collect will be used to test our machines for shredding end extruding first prototypes for future products. You can read more about what we are planning to do in our recent blog post about our HDPE bottle cap collection project.

Upcycling Workshop with Emmanuel

Dr. Emmanuel Reynaud from UCD run again his upcycling workshop on Saturday between 12.30 and 2 pm upstairs next to the clothes swap shop.

Precious Plastic?! – Facts and figures on global plastic abundance and what we can do about it with Celia Somlai

Celia is one of the co-founders of Precious Plastic Dublin and her day job is to investigate Irish and European packaging waste statistics at UCD.

Have you ever wondered how much plastic has been generated in total on this planet? And how much of that plastic actually has been recycled? Which industry produces the largest amount of plastic annually? Or which polymer is the most commonly used worldwide? Come to this informative talk to learn not only about the latest facts and figures, but also about practical solutions to this global challenge. Celia will also introduce you to the Precious Plastic Universe, an alternative, grass roots, plastic recycling community.
